Galp surpasses 1GW of solar power in Spain

The plants in Chiprana, in the region of Zaragoza, and Alcázar de San Juan, near Ciudad Real, raise Galp’s solar capacity in production to 1.2 GWp.

Galp has started production at four new photovoltaic plants in Spain, one near Zaragoza and three in the area of Ciudad Real, making it one the few Iberian companies with over 1 GW of installed solar power capacity in operation.
The Logro solar plant, located in Chiprana (Aragón), has an installed capacity of 50 MW and will have an estimated annual power production of 90,855 MWh, which is enough to provide clean energy to 35,000 homes. The Alcázar I, II and III plants, located in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), have a total capacity of 150 MW, and it is estimated that they will supply 295,345 MWh per year, equivalent to the energy requirements of 105,000 households.
Georgios Papadimitriou, COO of Galp for Renewables and New Business, stated “The start of operations at Logro and Alcázar confirm our commitment to continue leading the way on transitioning to a more sustainable energy system, increasing energy security for the Iberian Peninsula and lowering electricity costs for all”. He adds, “We are fulfilling our commitments to our shareholders, as well as to society.”
Galp is currently one of the biggest producers of photovoltaic solar power in the Iberian Peninsula, with an installed capacity of 1.2 GW in production, integrated into a total portfolio of 9.6 GW which includes projects under development in Spain, Brazil and Portugal. Galp aims to increase its renewable energy production capacity to 4 GW by 2025 and 12 GW by 2030.
